Drupal Camp Scotland Accessibility Session

We recently attended Drupal Camp Scotland. It was an excellent opportunity for Dupal devs and enthusiasts based in Scotland to get together and discuss how the platform and the community are evolving.

Our Accessibility Lead, Maria Young, presented a session at the event, “Building better with Drupal: practical tools for accessible websites”

Viewers will learn how to leverage Drupal to go beyond compliance and create websites that empower every user.

Maria talks about the European Accessibility Act (EAA), which states that private and public organisations providing products and services to anyone in the EU, including digital services and websites, must meet specific accessibility standards to ensure equal access for people with disabilities.

However, she argues that accessibility is more than compliance; it is the backbone of modern user experience design. In this session, she explores how Drupal can help site builders and front-end developers meet and exceed accessibility standards like WCAG 2.2 and the EEA.

This session dives into Drupal’s core accessibility tools, advanced theming techniques, and content workflows to ensure your site is accessible by design. She also shares best practices for building custom components and enhancing the user experience for people of all abilities.
