Andy Footner
Developer
Andy is a full-stack web developer, still fascinated by so many aspects of the internet and how it works, and still fighting to avoid and support alternatives to the overreach of 'big tech'. He's been working on good projects using open source technologies for almost 20 years.
Life before Agile
Andy graduated from Leeds University with a degree in philosophy, taught English in Eastern Europe, and wrote travel guides for Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro and large parts of Argentina.
Self-taught as a programmer (drawing deep on his philosophical training and using trend-spotting skills honed while working as an editor for Time Out), he began with Drupal and worked with media and NGOs before joining the UN, working on ReliefWeb for over a decade. He joined Agile in 2025.
When Andy's not at work
Keenly aware that so many creative projects could mean more screen time, he's happy to take many analogue routes, finding distraction and learning in books, sounds, nature, building things, and, of course, in other people. He likes to live in other cultures and speak different languages, and loves being in or near water.
